Macy’s Return Policy provides a time frame of 180 days for returning most of the items. This is likely a long timeframe compared to any other popular stores in the world. Their simple motto is to keep their customers happy by providing a longer return period. In spite of the 180-days return policy, there are few exceptions to it. Exceptions to Macy’s Return Policy
There are certain exceptions to the Macy’s Return Policy. Clearance sale items are to be returned in 30 days if required. Other exceptions which have a time frame of fewer than 180 days would be listed in the department wise list.
Department wise Macy’s Return Policy
The department-wise Time frame and different rules depending upon the category are listed below:
Apple Products
If you recently purchased an Apple smartphone and due to any reason you are not satisfied. Then you can return it within 14 days of purchase. Similarly, if you purchased an Apple product other than the smartphone and not satisfied with it, then Macy’s Return Policy allows you to return it within 30 days of purchase.
It must also be noted that an Apple merchandise can only be returned in a Macy’s store that has Apple Products if Purchased from the store.
If purchased online, then you can either return it by mail or to an Applicable store.
Area Rugs
Rugs purchase online can be returned within 30 days. It must be in its original packaging. In addition, Rugs purchased online cannot be returned to store.
Rugs purchased from a store can be returned within 7 days of purchase. For your return to be processed it is necessary to bring the original purchase receipt. In addition to the receipt, the Rug should be unused and undamaged.
Backstage
The Backstage item you purchased for yourself or your kid doesn’t fit? You can return or exchange these items within 30 days of purchase.
These items can only be returned to a Macy’s Backstage store.
Beauty Box
Macy’s Beauty Box products are non-returnable. All the items of Beauty Box once sold would be a final sale.
Bluemercury
All Bluemercury products can be returned within 180 days of purchase if you provide an original purchase receipt.
Bridal Salon By Demetrios
As per Macy’s return policy, all Bridal Salon by Demetrios are final sale. So you cannot return these items once purchased.
Cosmetics & Fragrances
Any Cosmetic and Fragrance item can be returned within 180 days of purchase. Macy’s also accepts the return if the Item has been slightly used.
Designer Brands
All the products of brands including Burberry, Gucci, Longchamp, Louis Vuitton, and Tous purchased from Macy’s can be returned within 14 days of purchase.
Customized orders of Alexandre London are non-returnable.
Apparels
Any apparel purchased from Macy.com or Macy store can be returned within 60 days of purchase if you are not satisfied with the item.
Finish Line
All Finish Line products can be exchanged within 45 days of purchase as per the Macy’s Return Policy.
Fur Vault
Fur clothing can be returned within 30 days of purchase. The return for these Items is accepted if provided with original receipt and Tags.
Return of Fur clothing bought from the store are accepted only at selected stores. Similarly, if these items are purchased from the store then they can be returned by mail only.
Gourmet Food & Wine
Gourmet food and Wine are non-returnable in any case. If you received a damaged product while delivery please contact Customer Service immediately.
Jewelry & Watches
Jewelry & Watches can be returned within 30 days of purchase. While returning these items you should bring the receipt with you. In addition to this, the item should be in a saleable condition.
Small Electronics
Small electronic Items can be returned within 60 days of purchase if you are not satisfied with the product. For returning these items they must be in its original packaging.
Clearance Sale Items
All the items sold under clearance sale within 30 days of purchase.
Locker Room by Lids
Lids can be brought for return or exchange within 30 days of purchase. you need to bring the original receipt or packing slip along with the item to return it.
Optical
All the optical items including spectacles and contact lens can be returned within 30 days of purchase. You need to bring the receipt with optical in order to return it.
Personal Care
All personal care items including deodorant, eyeliner, lip gloss, lipstick, hand soap, perfumes, razors, moisturizer, and talcum powder, etc. can be returned within 60 days of purchase.
Style Your Ring
Items purchased from Style Your Ring can be returned within 30 days of purchase with receipt. You cannot return these items to store, so you have to send these items via mail.

Non-Returnable Items
Macy’s has a very small list of non-returnable products. All Beauty Box products from Macy’s are non-returnable. Furthermore, any item which is perishable or if it is mentioned “non-returnable” in the description, cannot be returned once purchased.
Process of Return, Refund & Exchange
Macy’s Return Policy provides a simple way in which you can return the purchased item. Whether you have purchased your item from Macy’s store, or whether you have purchased it from Macys.com, the process to return is very straight forward. There are two ways in which you can return an item depending upon whether you have purchased it from store or Macys.com.
After returning the item, Macy’s exchange Policy plays an important role. Upon returning if you opt for an exchange, then it will only be provided to you if the item required by you is available at the time of returning.
Items purchased from store
For items purchased from the Macy’s store, if it qualifies the Macy’s Return Policy, you need to carry out the following procedure:
- Take your merchandise along with the receipt to the nearest Macy’s store.
- In case you don’t have the receipt, the payment method can be used to regenerate the receipt. The receipt can also be generated from the return label or packing slip.
- Further, if Macy’s is not able to generate the receipt, still it will provide you the refund in form of store credit at the current selling price of the product.
Items bought from Macys.com
If you have purchased an item from Macys.com then there are two ways in which you can return the item:
1.) Return to store: Only eligible items as per Macy’s Return Policy can be returned to store if purchased from Macys.com. The process is straight forward, you need to carry your item along with the printout of email of order confirmation.
There are a total number of 584 Macy’s stores summed up for locations United States, Puerto Rico & Guam. There are 121 Macy’s store in California, 53 Macy’s Store in Florida, 42 Macy’s Store in Texas, 39 Macy’s Store in New York and 32 Macy’s store in Washington.
2.) Return by mail: Every item purchased from Macys.com can be returned to Macy’s via mail. you need to go through the following procedure:
- Log on to Macys.com and sign in with your account from which you made the purchase.
- On the Orders page in My account section, enter Order Number in the search bar here.
- Now go to order details, and click on #Return item.
- Enter a valid and genuine reason for return.
- Select the method of refund.
- Submit with confirmation, and your return request will be placed.
- Once a return request is done, print the mailing label and stick it on the package box.
- Take the package to the nearest UPS drop-off location and once Macy’s receives your return, they will initiate refund or exchange if applicable as per Macy’s return policy.
Method of Refund
- With Purchase Receipt: On providing your purchase receipt, the payment method, and return label or packing slip, you will get a full refund. You will be provided the refund in the same for as you used for payment during purchase.
- With Gift Receipt: On providing a Gift Receipt and a return label, you will get a complete refund in the form of Store credit.
- Without Receipt: You don’t need to worry if you have lost the receipt. As per the Macy’s Return Policy, you can still get the refund. However, the amount of refund will be the item’s lowest selling price in the last 180 days.

I bought a set of Samsonite luggage ($1020.00) with a 10 year warranty from Macy’s in 2012. After wear and tear from use, I returned the luggage in 2018 to Macy’s for exchange, which they promptly honored. I have a receipt noting the exchange with dates and appropriate product numbers.
